Most Federal Holidays are NO BURN DAYS in all areas, unless otherwise designated in the table below:

Cal Fire residential burn permits are required throughout the district  as of May 1, 2026. (Residents in Truckee are required to obtain a burn permit through the Truckee Fire Protection District).

Open Burning is suspended for the season in Nevada and Sierra County: Monday, June 15, 2026

Open Burning will be suspended in Plumas County: Wednesday, June 17, 2026

Quincy Area - Cal Fire Permits required, and NSAQMD Air Pollution Permits required  YES NO
Plumas County (outside the Quincy area) - Cal Fire Permits required                                        YES NO

Open burning is  NOT ALLOWED in the city limits of Grass Valley, Nevada City and City of Portola

Air Pollution Permits are required in the Quincy area. Please use the map below to determine if an Air Pollution Permit is required prior to open burning in the Quincy Area. Email office@myairdistrict.com with any questions
